Inter Milan and Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen slumped on the pitch during the first half of Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland on Saturday, and the game was called off.
In a goalless Group B match in Copenhagen, the Inter midfielder slumped to the ground with no other players around him shortly before halftime.
Eriksen’s teammates and referee Anthony Taylor asked for medical assistance right away, as medical personnel rushed onto the field to treat the 29-year-old.
While efforts were made to resuscitate Eriksen, the players formed a protective barrier around him.
On the pitch, players from both teams, as well as fans in the grandstand, were visibly distressed.
