Neurallink to Implant Chips in the Human Brain Says Elon Musk. Elon Musk believes that his brain-interface technology firm Neuralink, is less than a year away from implanting chips in human brains.

When questioned about plans for the firm in 2022, the billionaire revealed the information during a live-streamed conversation with The Wall Street Journal CEO Council Summit on Monday.

“Neuralink is functioning well in monkeys, and we’re conducting a lot of testing to demonstrate that it’s really safe and dependable, and that the Neuralink device can be securely removed,” Musk added.

‘We plan to have this in our first humans next year, pending FDA approval, who will be those with severe spinal cord injuries such as tetraplegics and quadriplegics.’

‘I believe we have a chance of allowing someone who is unable to walk or use their arms to walk again – but not naturally.’

Neuralink demonstrated their brain chip in a monkey on April 9, 2021, allowing the animal to play Pong using only its thinking.

While the animal was playing the game, the gadget in its brain captured information about the neurons firing and learned to predict the motions it would make. ‘Essentially, the monkey appeared normal, but it is telepathically playing a video game, which I believe is incredibly significant,’ Musk said on Monday’s broadcast.

A computer chip is linked to tiny flexible threads that are sewn into the brain by a’sewing-machine-like’ robot in Neuralink’s technology. The gadget detects brain impulses, which are subsequently converted into muscular commands.

According to Musk, the technology has been shown to be safe in the brain and can be readily removed, therefore the only thing stopping Neuralink from moving forward with human trials is FDA permission.

“Our requirements for implanting the device are greater than those approved by the FDA, just as our safety standards are far better than those set by the US government.”

Musk re-iterated the 2022 deadline in a tweet on Monday, saying that Neuralink’s work will speed once the devices are ‘in people next year.

However, the billionaire has stated that human trials will begin in 2019 and that testing would begin by the end of 2020. So from 2022 Neurallink to Implant Chips in the Human Brain.

Musk is also known for setting up expectations for his company’s technology just to under deliver and disappoint.
Musk originally exhibited Neuralink in pigs before it was observed in a monkey’s brain.

On August 28, 2020, Neuralink held its maiden presentation, which Musk hyped up by stating it will “display neurons firing in real-time.

“Even if such was the case during the live presentation, viewers were saddened to learn that the neurons were those of a pig named Gertrude, not a person.

While speaking on Monday, Musk looked to be extremely confident in the 2022 schedule and Neuralink’s capacity to help paraplegics walk again.

‘It’s a huge thing, and I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I’m certain it can be done,’ he added.

Along with assisting patients in regaining their mobility, Musk claims that Neuralink’s chip might also aid in the treatment of addiction and depression.

In a July 2020 tweet, the billionaire responded to a user’s question on if the implant could’re-train part of the brain’ associated to the diseases.

“Can Neuralink be used to re-train the part of the brain that causes addiction or depression?’ tweeted Twitter user Pranay Pathole. ‘It would be fantastic if neuralink could be utilized to treat addiction or depression.’

‘Indeed. ‘This is both fantastic and terrifying,’ Musk responded. Musk discussed how Neuralink plans to have a version of its brain implant ready ‘within a year’ on Joe Rogan’s podcast in May 2020.

Musk described the procedure as removing a section of the skull, followed by robots inserting electrodes into the brain and the gadget into the hole, leaving only a little scar.

He also claimed that in under 25 years, the technology may evolve into a full brain interface, allowing humans and AI to work together in “symbiosis.”

“You wouldn’t need to converse,’ Musk said, adding that he expects the technology will advance to the point where humans and AI can work together in a’symbiosis.”

‘I believe this is one of the ways to AI growing better and better,’ Musk added. We’ve been left behind because we’re just too stupid.
How do you plan on going along for the ride?’

Join them if you can’t beat them.
To some extent, we are already cyborgs,’ Musk said Rogan.
