Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly blocked Manchester United from appointing Antonio Conte earlier this season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Top officials at Old Trafford, on the other hand, decided not to consult Ronaldo about Erik ten Hag’s appointment.
Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last year and replaced on an interim basis by Ralf Rangnick in November, United have been looking for a new permanent manager.
The Red Devils had been linked with a move for Conte before Solskjaer’s sacking.
They stuck with Solskjaer in the end, while the Italian joined Tottenham Hotspur.

United turned down Conte after chatting with Ronaldo, according to reports.
United’s hierarchy had doubts about replacing Solskjaer with the fiery former Inter Milan manager, and this was compounded when Ronaldo’s reservations were conveyed to the board.

After United were hammered 4-1 by Watford, the Portugal captain effectively blocked any move for Conte, but his agent, Jorge Mendes, was pushing for Solskjaer’s sacking just a few weeks later.
