For the very first time in the conflict, Russia claims to have launched hypersonic missiles into Ukraine.

According to Igor Konashenkov, a spokesperson for the Russian Defense Ministry, the Kinzhal missile hit an underground storehouse in the western Ivano-Frankivsk area that was holding ammunition for Ukrainian soldiers.

The Kinzhal – or “Dagger” – missile is thought to have a 1,250-mile range.
Most anti-missile defense systems can’t see it because of its speed and ability to fly low.

Konashenkov’s claims could not be independently verified by the UK Standard.

The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not responded to a request for comment.

Russia said it had also destroyed Ukrainian military radio and reconnaissance centres near the port city of Odessa using a coastal missile system, Interfax news agency reported.

It is unknown if the strikes caused any casualties.

“The Kinzhal aviation missile system with hypersonic aero-ballistic missiles destroyed a large underground ammunition depot in the Ivano-Frankivsk region,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov.

The next generation of weaponry is hypersonic weapons. They have the ability to travel at more than five times the speed of sound.

Because of their speed and maneuverability, the weapons represent a significant threat to missile defense systems.

To stay competitive in the military, the head of the UK’s armed forces has previously stated that the country has to develop hypersonic weapons.

Russia’s hypersonic and long-range missile capacity, according to Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, is a threat, while Britain’s comparable capabilities are a vulnerability. He stated, “We haven’t (get them) and we must have.”
