According to a conversation between two FSB officials, he was the 41st Army’s first deputy commander and was killed west of Kharkiv.

Paliy’s death was verified by a Russian friend, Konstantin Tsarenko, secretary of the Sevastopol Nakhimov Naval School’s public council.

Moscow, on the other hand, has not publicly recognised his death.
According to one story, he was part in attacks on Russian forces near Mariupol.

Paliy, who was born in Kyiv, refused to take the Ukrainian military oath in 1993, and instead chose to serve in the Russian Northern Fleet.

He had earlier served on the Russia nuclear missile cruiser “Peter the Great”.

He also served as deputy head of the Russian naval academy in Sevastopol in annexed Crimea.
